Ethos and values statement

The aim of the education provided at Trimdon Hill school is to develop social interaction and communication skills to allow young people to express their needs and to stimulate curiosity in the world around them.

At Trimdon Hill School we are dedicated to creating a therapeutic and nurturing learning environment which enables all students to make progress. By providing a broad and rich curriculum focusing on the holistic growth of our students, we focus on developing core life skills such as communication and social interaction, sensory processing and emotional regulation. We develop young people’s skills to ensure that they can access the world around them and prepare them for the next stages of their education. This is achieved by offering a broad and exciting curriculum which is supported by a variety of professionals who liaise with families to support young people’s broader development.

We work alongside families and our clinical team to support communication development and acquisition of language and communication skills so that young people can express their themselves and are able to interact with others whilst developing crucial social interaction skills that are appropriate to their needs. This is developed through the thoughtful and individualised planning of activities that stimulate curiosity and support regulation so that young people can access the curriculum which in turn allows them to make progress.

We understand that allowing us to work with your young person may feel daunting which is why we strive to engage families as partners in their child’s education through clear and consistent communication and reviewing progress regularly.

Many of our young people will have sensory processing difficulties which is why our school focusses on ensuring that sensory needs are met by working alongside our clinical team to develop individualised programmes that allow young people to build confidence in a safe and nurturing environment where play and interaction help deliver outcomes for all.

Young people are at the centre of everything we do here at Trimdon Hill school and with the support of our colleagues and families we aim to allow our young people to access education, community and the wider world around them.
